FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT BERNIE
IS BERNIE WILLIAMS RETIRED?
It is pretty safe to say yes, although he has yet to make an official announcement. At the start of the 2007 season, the Yankees decided to carry 12 pitchers along with multiple first baseman for defensive purposes, and appointed Jason Giambi as their full-time designated hitter. These moves essentially left no roster space for Bernie. The Yankees extended him an invitation to Spring Training to fight for a roster space. However, Bernie believed (and rightfully so) that he should have been guaranteed a job because he proved he could still be a productive player the previous year. In fact, the Yankees played some of their best baseball in 2006 when Bernie was playing full-time. In short, this was a horrible way for the Yankees to treat a player who had done nothing but good things for them for so many years.
WILL BERNIE'S #51 BE RETIRED?
It has not been retired yet, but the news has been encouraging thus far. The number has not been issued to anyone since Bernie stopped playing. Recently, Hank Steinbrenner made some statements regarding how special Bernie has been to the organization, and that a day to honor him has been discussed. There has been no other information on this topic to report lately. Although with the new Yankee Stadium set to open in 2009, the timing would be perfect. We all know Bernie deserves it. WHAT DOES THE "SDG" UNDER BERNIE'S SIGNATURE MEAN?
"SDG" is short for "Solo a Dios la gloria," which roughly translates to "God be the glory."
WHEN IS BERNIE'S NEXT CD BEING RELEASED?
Bernie's second cd, Moving Forward, is available right now on Reform Records. You can order it by clicking here.
WHEN IS BERNIE'S NEXT CONCERT?
Bernie does not have an official touring schedule as of yet, but does make several appearances in the New York area each year. Your best bet is to check my site regularly for any updates.
HOW CAN I GET BERNIE'S AUTOGRAPH?
You basically have to be in the right place at the right time. Bernie rarely does any public signings, although he has done a few cd signings in the last few months. He did do some private signings in the past with Steiner, who are reputable but very expensive. I do not recommend buying through Ebay because I have seen some items for sale that do not look authentic. The annual Hillside Food Outreach Benefit (Bernie's charity), offers various signed items of Bernie when you purchase a ticket to their event. You can also purchase authentic signed items (at much more affordable prices than Steiner) directly through the HFO's website by clicking here.
